Reflection

  • What have I learnt in this module?
I have learned about principles of design and their applications in art/design work by first studying examples from other graphic designers and artists and then by applying them to my own work.
  • What did I enjoy the most?
I enjoyed the drawing/sketching bit in Task 2 and 3 the most, to have to study an existing work of art and to improve it by studying a variety of different art styles made me step out of my comfort zone and try out a new approach to art.
  • What did I not enjoy the most?
Finding references, although it is a necessary step, it took a way longer time than I thought it would, sometimes I'd find the perfect work for task 1 but I couldn't find the source of the material, who drew it or uploaded it first; even when I tried reverse image search engines it didn't give me a working link. It was meticulous.

I also realized that Sketchbook didn't change the size of my canvas to A4 and that too was a premium feature so I had to adjust everything again which was tedious.
  • What have I learnt about myself through this module?
I have learned that by studying other people's art and by having strong sources of inspiration my work can be further enhanced and that I can apply a variety of design principles to my work to make them more interesting and dynamic.
  • What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?

My approach to art is more critical and technical now rather than just admiring a piece for its aesthetics. One thing that hasn't changed is my respect for those who create intricate works of art and intentionally adding all these details to their work to make it more meaningful.

  • What are my aspirations?

I want to be able to use the knowledge I've gained from this module and make better drawings/designs and to be able to share them with the world. In a day and age where AI is being used as an excuse for lack of effort, I want to make a difference and work harder by studying and practicing to be able to improve my skills rather than just typing a few prompts and refusing to learn how to create things from scratch. The world needs our creativity, not the aesthetically pleasing montages of stolen works done by other artists.
