INSTRUCTIONS

EXPLORATION

Task 2/Typographic Exploration & Communication

Sketches:

Figure 1.1: Sketches (26/5/2025)

First I came up with a few layouts, and then I sketched them out.

Exploration:

I went to work on the headline in Adobe Illustrator. I didn't like the first one because it looked like the parking logo. I liked the second one but it felt like it's not striking enough. Then I set up guides and re-arranged things, alongside putting a box around U and S.

Then I started to explore a different variety of  layouts.

Then I decided to go with the bottom left design because I like the flow of it and it's chaotic as well, capturing the essence of punk. I also made it so that if someone folds the page in half, the "BREAKING" splits into 2 parts, as if it's literally breaking.

FEEDBACK

Week 6:

General Feedback: Sir told us all that we need to look at designs as a whole, and not to view them separately. He also said that our blogposts shouldn't be long.

Specific Feedback: He told me that my design is rigid because it's left-justified and the spacing is a bit odd, so I adjusted them. He also said the image is not related to the text and it reminds him more of interior design than architecture.

REFLECTION

Experience:

I find that in person tutorials are way better when it comes to learning technical things and troubleshooting. Unfortunately because of this there are some things I'm not sure if I'm doing right or not and I'm constantly lost.

Observation:

Fitting everything and coming up with a decent layout takes time, and there are some technical things that need to be taken into account, such as the spacing, the baseline, widows and orphans and the number of characters per sentence.

Findings:

This task was easier than the other one because it had less work that needed to be done and we had more creative freedom in formatting the text this time but it was still difficult.
